How contact syncing works

1 min read · Updated 17 Aug 2026

What gets sent, when, and what the statuses mean.

For: EveryoneDifficulty: Medium⏱ 2 min

Step by step

  1. A new or updated contact is queued for each connected platform — the visitor is never made to wait for it.
  2. Synced means the platform accepted the contact.
  3. Pending means it is queued or being retried.
  4. Failed means the platform rejected it; the reason is shown on the contact.
  5. Skipped means we deliberately did not send it — usually because consent was not given.

Tips

  • Consent travels with the contact. A contact who did not opt in is not mirrored, whatever the integration settings say.
  • Use Sync on a contact to retry one by hand after fixing a problem.
