Scheduling, expiry dates and passwords for QR codes
1 min read · Updated 17 Oct 2026
Make a code start or stop working on a date, or ask for a password first.
For: EveryoneDifficulty: Medium⏱ 3 min
Step by step
- Open the code and choose Edit (or set these while creating it).
- Under Schedule and expiry, set Starts working and/or Stops working, and the Time zone those times are in. Add a Message once it has ended if you like.
- Under Password, set one between 4 and 100 characters.
- Save.
Tips
- Before the start time, scanners see “This QR code isn’t live yet” with the date it starts. After the end, they see your message — or, if you set an address under When the code is paused, they are sent there instead.
- A password-protected code shows a LinkVault page asking for it before anything else — not even the destination is revealed. LinkVault stores only a secure hash; nobody can read the password back.
- Once someone enters the right password, that phone stays unlocked for 12 hours. Change the password to lock everybody out again.
- Repeated wrong guesses are slowed down and then blocked for a while.
- Scheduling, expiry and passwords are included from the Growth plan.
